Planning a Birthday Party at Home: A Four-Week Checklist

Planning a birthday party at home

Most of the stress around a home birthday comes from doing everything in the final 48 hours.

Here is a timeline that spreads the work out, built from a decade of planning celebrations.

Four weeks before

Fix the date and time. Two-hour slots work best for children under six. Decide your theme and guest count, since everything else follows from these two decisions.

Three weeks before

Send invitations. A personalised video invitation is easy to share on WhatsApp and makes following up simpler. Order your décor now — personalised pieces are made to order, so we ask for at least seven days.

Two weeks before

Book the cake and confirm catering. Plan two or three simple activities rather than a packed schedule; children entertain themselves more than parents expect.

One week before

Follow up on responses and finalise numbers. Buy return gift contents. Confirm your décor delivery date.

Two days before

Assemble return gift bags. Clear the party area and decide where the backdrop, cake table and food will go.

The day before

Set up the décor. This single change removes most of the day-of panic. Charge your camera, and keep the cake topper somewhere you will not have to hunt for it.

On the day

Blow up balloons in the morning, set out food an hour before, and keep return gifts by the door. Then put your phone down for a while and enjoy it.

Order lead time: every Molly Moo piece is personalised and made to order. Please order at least 7 days before your event — 10 days during peak season.
