Keep the guest list small

One-year-olds do not need a crowd. Close family and a few friends with children of similar age is plenty. Large gatherings tend to overwhelm babies and lead to a fretful birthday child in every photograph.

Time it around the nap, not the guests

Schedule the party shortly after your child’s usual nap and keep it to about two hours. A well-rested baby makes for far better photos and a far calmer afternoon.
